Pre-Spring Cleaning your Makeup

Pre-Spring Cleaning your Makeup

I know that traditionally people usually have a spring clean during spring, but I often have a good sort out during the winter time. When it comes to sorting out my Make-up I like to keep it sort of organised and only keep the products that I know that I will use. I like to just have a few products open so that nothing is wasted. Powder products and Lipsticks aren't so bad but if its a Mascara then I only open one at a time. However, recently I have tried to use up the different products that I own.
In this blog post I am going to share a few of the ways that I sort out my Makeup and other beauty products.
  • When sorting out my Make-up and other similar products I like to sort them into three groups, the first being give to someone else that can really use this (if its an un-opened and not been used I would give it to someone that would actually use it). This could be a friend, family member or if its a giftset or un-opened body care product you could donate it to charity.
  • The next group would be product I need to throw out, this includes expired products and things that I have used up. When it comes to expired products I like to sort through them thouroughly I would perhaps keep a powder blusher it it was slightly past it's expiry, but products that you use around your eyes (Mascara, Eyeliner and Eyeshadow) I like to throw out because the eye areas is really sensitive so I would only use products that were in date on my eyes.
  • The third group would be products that I need to use up, this may be a Lipstick or Blusher that I haven't used for a while that I have just re-discovered in my collection. A good way to use up these kinds of products is to keep them some where you can see them, I like to keep these kinds of products in a vintage tin in my bedroom along with my daily and evening moisturiser. That way I will remember that they are there.
  • While clearing out my make-up I also like to wash my brushes, keeping them clean and ready for the next time I use them. I like to clean my brushes reguarly in order to keep them clean and smelling fresh!

My No Foundation Neutral Look

My No Foundation Neutral Look...

This is makeup is something I would wear on a casual day, I don't like to wear Foundation every day so I usually just wear a bit of Concealer and Pressed Powder. And that is the basis for this look, the products are all neutral and are easy to wear.

Products I used...
The Body Shop Lip Balm - Cranberry
Collection Concealer - Shade 1
Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder - 02 Transparent (This is in green packaging)
Topshop Bold Liner - (Not sure which shade but it is a dark brown)
Natural Collection Eyeshadow - Asteroid
Natural Collection Blusher - Pink Cloud
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara - Black
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipglsoss - Pink Apricot

To start my makeup after moisturising my face I put on a little bit of The Body Shop Cranberry Lip Balm, then I used the Collection Concealer in shade 1 to cover up any redness on my face. I then used the Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder to set the Concealer in order to keep it in place. I then used my finger to apply the Natural Collection Eyeshadow in Asteroid, I then used Topshop's Bold Liner to add more definition to the eye area. I then finished off the eyes using the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara in Black. After finishing the eyes I used a small powder brush to apply Natural Collection's Blusher in Pink Cloud. Finally I added a bit of lipgloss in the form of Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in Pink Apricot.

part 2 winter essentials blog post

My Winter Must haves - Part 2

Welcome to part two of my winter favourites blog post. In this post I have included a few of my other favourites and essentials that I like to use throughout the winter season. These range from beauty and fashion essentials to items I use around the home around the winter time.

Flowers  - Although Flowers are usually associates more with spring, I think they look good in the home all year round and each season has a specific type that I would usually use. These Flowers that have pink and purple tones create a sense of warmth which reminds me of creating a cosy home environment during the winter months. However, if you have a specific type of that you like you can use these all year round, but change the colour to suit the season. For example if you like Roses then you could use red ones in winter and white and pink ones during spring and summer.

Film Days – Staying indoors and watching a good film on a cold day is one of my favourite things to do, not only do you get a chance to relax but you also get to watch a film that you really like, or maybe a television series that you loved that much that you had to buy it, in order to re-live the best moments.  Some of my favourites are Superbad (2007), 500 Days of Summer (2009) and Great Expectations (TV, 2011).

Fashion Favourites – Winter fashion has be my favourite along with autumn, wearing layers and trying out new accessories is something that I really like to do. Hats, gloves, snoods and warm socks make the icy temperatures that bit more enjoyable. (I don’t like being too cold!) So buying lots of winter extras is usually at the top of my list when the seasons begin to change. Here are a few of the items… The hat and gloves are from Next and the socks are from Primark.

My Winter Must Haves - Part 1

My Winter Beauty favourites - Part 1

Here are a few of my favourites for the winter season...

I know we are already into the winter winter months but there is never a better time for me to try out some new beauty products, read interior design books and spend time relaxing indoors after being outside in the cold.
Here are few things I will be doing this winter...

Interior Design Books
Staying indoors and reading a good book, I particuarly like books about interior design as they give me inspiration on how to add more creativitiy to my room. I'm currently starting to look through the Kirstie's Homemade Home book, its full of great ways to add character to your home and personalise your belongings making them unique to you. I'm really looking forward to reading through more of this and maybe starting to make a few of the projects that are in the book for my room.  Its also a great accompanyment to the Kirstie's Homemade Home television series which I always love to watch with my family.
I also like to look at online blog posts on interior design and draw my own ideas for how I would like my dream room/house to look.

Looking after your skin in winter
After coming inside after being in the cold I like to wash my face and apply moisturiser, then I will exfoliate my lips with a lush lip scrub (I don't do this everyday though, maybe just twice a week), then I apply a lip balm. There are so many to choose from but I really like the Burts Bees lip balms and The Body Shop lip balm. Using a hand cream is also something I like to use before I go to sleep, the Soap and Glory Hand Food hand cream is my favourite!

Winter Fragrances
I love perfume and love to wear a different scent for a different season during winter I like to wear stronger scents that aren't very sweet so Armarni Diamonds and Calvin Klein Euphoria are two of my favourites to wear.

Quick Makeup Favourites - Lip and cheek stain by Model Co.
Natural Collection eyeshadow in Asteroid (a dark shimmery brown shade)

Hope you liked this blog post, what are some of your winter favourites?   Part 2 of the post will be coming soon.

What I've been doing today and a small skincare haul

A Day in the Life - Well sort of...

I'm sorry this post is up quite late, I've just been to the shops and got two skincare products that I'm interested in trying. Other than that I've been looking rhrough magazines, tidying up and helping around the house. So I thought that I would share my day with you and let you know what I've been doing today.
I got up quite early and got ready then spent some time with my family, after a busy morning I listened to some music one of my favourites ELO came on the radio which is always good. Then it was time to call to the shops, I just had a quick trip to Boots where I got two new skincare products that I haven't tried before. Both are Nivea and both products were on offer at my local Boots. I knew I needed a moisturiser so I thought now would be a good time to try a new one.  I got both the Daily Essentials - Rich Moisturising Cream for dry and sensitive skin and the Daily Essentials - Regenterating Night Cream.for normal to combination skin. I've not opened the creams yet, but may do a more in depth review on them in the future.

I've also been looking through a few magazines for makeup inspiration for the new year.

Beauty item of the day - Walls Twister flavour Lip Balm (I got this a few months ago from my local Topshop but you can find other flavour lip balms similar to this one).

On my nails - Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee - a nude cream colour that gives me the look of 'mannequin' style nails, which I love! They look so unique and go with any outfit.

Hope you liked this post, if you have any other ideas for beauty product related posts  just let me know :)

New Beauty Products

New Beauty Products - New products I'm excited to try out this year...

Over the Holidays I recieved some lovely new beauty products, I also bought some new products to try out for the new year. I have chosen a few that I am really excited about and wanted to share with you.
The first is a lovely gift box from Benefit that contains some of their most popular products, its a beautiful box and looks lovely in my room. But the products inside are also very lovely, I haven't tried that many Benefit Cosmetics products but the ones I have tried I loved, particuarly their eye products. But I've never tried their blushers or lipglosses so this is a real treat for me. The box contains minature deluxe samples of Benetint and Highbeam and samples of both the Sugarbomb blusher and lipgloss. The colours are really pretty and could be used for an everyday neutral but pretty makeup look.

This is the back of the box showing you what product it contains...
This is the front of the box, its pretty and pink! My two favourite things.

The second products I am looking forward to using during the new year are Barry M nail polishes, I bought a few before Christmas but havent used them yet, here are a few of my favourites...

These are a few of my favourite shades (these bottles don't have names on) but the colours are a dark purple, dark (slightly shimmery) blue and a dark mauve shade (which is my favourite). But all of the Barry M nail polishes are great as they are really affordable and come in a variety of different shades and textures.

Finally I a am looking forward to using the Umberto Giannini Instant Beauty Leave-in Conditioner which like all of the range smells fresh and clean, like you've just washed your hair. I've just tried this on my hair and it sprays on as fine mist, the bottle comes with a spray cap so that the product is easily disributed onto the hair when you spray it. The leave-in condition feels light and makes your hair look shiny and healthy without taking away volume. The product is also not sticky so it won't make your hair look greasy. I've only tried this once but I really like it already.

These are some of the beauty products I am looking forward to using this year, what are yours?

Best wishes :)
